How would you prevent from steam gift card scamming?

I have done some research about checking the balance of steam wallet cards and there is no way to check the balance, so how would you prevent scamming from happening?

By scam in you mean buying a card from eBay/Amazon? If your buying from a local store there is NO WAY to get scammed. As long as you keep your receipt

 Never heard of that happening, Ive spent atleast 250 dollars on steam from my store, never got scammed.
